iOS 15 has officially arrived, and it brings over 300 new features and tweaks. Some old features have also made a comeback with changes and improvements. If your iPhone has got the iOS 15 update, you must know what you are getting with it.
Here I have mentioned some of the best iOS 15 features that I have found highly useful and a must know for all iPhone users.
7 Best iOS 15 Features
After the iOS 15 beta 8, we finally have the official release of iOS 15. Here are 7 best iPhone new features that arrived with iOS 15. The iOS new features mentioned here are exciting and very useful. Once you learn about them from here, given it a try and share your experience in the comment section.
1) Background Sounds
iOS 15 comes with various hidden features and Background Sounds is one of them. Background Sounds doesn’t come with its own app but is stowed in the Accessibility section of the Settings. Your iPhone can now play background sounds to set an ambience depending on your mood.
What’s more interesting is that the background sounds also work while you are playing music on your iPhone, creating an even more immersive experience if done right. This feature is great for setting up an ambience for work, relaxation, workout, etc.
Here is how you can turn on background sounds on your iPhone with iOS 15:
- Open Settings and scroll down. Locate Accessibility and tap on it.
- In the Accessibility tab, find the Hearing options and tap on Audio/Visual.
- Select the Background Sounds option next.
- Now, turn on the Background Sounds toggle.
Choose the song you want to play, change the volume and play it. Once you turn on the Background sounds toggle, the sound will automatically start playing. The toggle works as an On/Off button for the Background sounds, so you will have to disable it to stop it.
2) FaceTime Now Works With Android And Windows, And Come With SharePlay
FaceTime was already available on iOS but with iOS 15, it now works on Android and Windows, which is a big step from Apple. Other than that, FaceTime now has SharePlay on iOS 15, a feature similar to Facebook’s watch together, where users can watch video streaming services like Hulu and Disney + or listen to music on Apple Music together through FaceTime.
SharePlay on FaceTime is not yet working on iOS 15, but it’s soon to come so look forward to it.
3) Focus – A Highly Customizable Feature
Focus was introduced on iOS 15, which is a far more efficient version of its previous Do Not Disturb feature. The Do Not Disturb feature only stopped notifications, message sounds and calls, but with the new Focus there are four modes, Do Not Disturb, Personal, Work, and Sleep, that provide better ways to step away from your phone.
The Personal and Work modes allow users to create special home screens with chosen apps. Any apps not chosen in that mode will not appear on the home screen while that mode is enabled. A great way to create different setups on your device for your different moods.
4) An Upgraded Maps
Apple Maps gets updated with each iOS version release for tackling the highly popular Google Maps and the new iOS 15 brings some exciting new features. Some of the features showcased in the WWDC 2021 event was 3D views for overpasses, better local details on maps and realistic night views. The new maps also helps in navigating through public transits my telling the users when to enter and exit from the underground maze.
5) Better Safari
Safari also receives a well awaited update to its tab view with the iOS 15. The earlier tab view was not popular among users and the spaced out new tab view is well received. Safari also adds a tab grouping feature, something that Edge and Chrome both had already implemented.
Unlike Edge’s collections the new tab grouping feature on Safari doesn’t allow users to add notes or output to documents. Another major change on Safari is that the default address bar is now on the bottom of the screen.
6) Live Text OCR
One of the iPhone new features is Live Text OCR, which uses iPhone’s powerful engine to recognize text and even copy, paste, select and search in the Camera and Photos app. This is extremely convenient as you can simply use your camera to take photos of shops and directly call the advertised number on their boarding, without the need to copy it down.
With the feature added in Photos, you can detect texts on screenshots as well as photos, which is highly useful. Backup your written notes using this convenient feature, although the accuracy may depend on the handwriting, it works a lot better than we expected.
7) Better Privacy Protection
iPhone is well known for its privacy protection and iOS 15 takes care of a privacy threat long present in the iPhone. Siri now has on-device speech recognition, so she no longer needs to check your spoken requests over the internet and does it locally.
iOS 15 also adds Privacy Report, which allows users to check what personal data is being collected by each app installed on their device. This is a great feature and allows more transparency between the users and apps they use.
So, there you have it. Here are the 7 best features of iOS 15 that I have found highly useful and exciting. Share your thoughts on these features or other features that arrived on iOS 15 in the comments section.
