1) Terminate Discord Process From The Task Manager

When you find Discord installation has failed, end all the Discord tasks from the Task Manager. To do so, follow the steps given below:

  • Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the options.
  • You may also press the Win + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run utility. Then enter taskmgr in the Run command box and press Enter. Task Manager will open now.


  • Go to the process tab and scroll down to find any running Discord task.
  • Select & right-click on the Discord task and select the End task option.


  • Repeat the same process for any other Discord-related tasks. Close Task Manager.

2) Delete Discord App Data

The next thing you need to do is delete Discord cache data stored on your PC. Here is how you can do it:

  • Open the Run utility and enter %AppData% in the Run command box. Press Enter.


  • From the File Explorer window, find the Discord folder and select it. Right-click on it and select Delete.


  • Again open the Run utility and enter %LocalAppData% in the Run command box. Press the Enter key.


  • From the File Explorer window, locate the Discord folder.
  • Right-click on it and select the Delete option. Restart your PC and try to download & install the Discord app from the official website.

3) Try To Install Discord In The Safe Mode

In case you have a problem installing Discord in the normal mode, try to download it in Safe Mode.

Sometimes other programs and services conflict with Discord and create problems.

Safe mode provides minimum functionalities, so you can try installing Discord in the safe mode.

To do so, follow the steps given below:

  • Enter System Configuration in the Windows Search button and select the top option.
  • Go to the Boot tab and click on the Safe boot option. Click on the OK button.


  • When prompted, choose the Restart option to enter into the Safe Mode.
  • When you enter into the Safe Mode, try to install Discord. This time you should not have any problem.

4) Run Discord In Compatibility Mode

If after installing Discord you have compatibility issues and find it not running, then run Discord in the compatibility mode.

To do that, follow the steps given below:

  • Right-click on the Discord Desktop app shortcut and open its Properties.
  • Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode.


  • Select a version of Windows from the given options.
  • Also, check the box for Run this program as an administrator option.


Finally, click the Apply button followed by OK to save the changes made.

5) Disable Firewall Temporarily

Sometimes your Firewall can be overprotective and block the installation process of Discord.

So, disable the firewall for the time being and then install Discord. To do so, follow the steps given below:

  • Enter Windows Defender Firewall in the Windows search box. Choose the top option.
  • Next, select the Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off option.


  • Turn off Windows Defender Firewall by clicking on the particular option for both Private and Public network settings. Refer to the picture provided below.


  • Download and install Discord after you turn off the Firewall. If you are using any other antivirus program, make sure to disable that.

Since your device is vulnerable to threats after disabling the Firewall or antivirus, so, turn on your Firewall protection later.
