Fix: Ping General Failure Error [Solved]

We use the Ping command to troubleshoot network or internet-related problems.

Ping command verifies whether a PC can successfully communicate with another device over the network.

But sometimes you may have Ping general failure error while running the commands in Command Prompt window.

Now, this issue can be addressed using some feasible solutions, which I will be providing in this article.

How To Fix Ping General Failure Error?

Perform the methods given below and find the suitable one that fixes the Ping general failure error.

1) Run Network Troubleshooters

While running a ping command, if you get a ping transmit failed general failure error, then run the network adapter troubleshooter first.

So, follow the step given below to run the troubleshooter:

  • Enter Troubleshoot in the Windows search box and click on the Troubleshoot Settings
  • Next, select the Additional Troubleshooters option.

  • Click on Network Adapter Toubleshooter and run the troubleshooter. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the task.

2) Flush DNS And Reset Winsock

If after running the Network adapter troubleshooter, you are getting the same Ping error, then try flushing the DNS.

Flushing DNS will wipe off all the DNS records from the cache.

In case corruption in the cache has caused this error, it should get fixed this way.

Now follow the steps as mentioned:

  • Enter CMD in the Windows Search bar and right-click on Command Prompt. Select Run as administrator option.

  • Enter the following commands in the elevated Command Prompt window. Don’t forget to press the Enter key after each command.
ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh int ip reset

netsh winsock reset

The Ping error will hopefully get fixed after running the commands. But if you get the same problem, move on to the next step.

3) Use Command Prompt To Turn Off All The IPV4 Or Ipv6 Transition Technologies

Enter the following commands one by one in the elevated Command Prompt window and press the Enter button each time to run those:

netsh int ipv6 isatap set state disabled

netsh int ipv6 6to4 set state disabled

netsh interface teredo set state disable

netsh_interface_teredo_set_state_disableMake sure to exit the Command Prompt window each time you run the commands and restart your PC.

After running the commands successfully if you still see general failure ping, then move on to the next solution.

4) Uninstall Apps Blocking HTTP Traffic

If any application or service is blocking HTTP traffic then this can cause the ping general failure on Windows 10.

Applications like Peerblock, Charles, Wireshark, and clients like AnyConnect mobility can block your PC from letting Ping access the particular IP address or website you want to reach.

So, uninstall these applications from your system and this can fix the problem.

I would also recommend you uninstall any other suspicious third-party app that you may think is responsible for the problem. Check if you have recently installed such apps.

  • Enter Control Panel in the search box and choose the top option.
  • Go to Programs And Features section.

  • Right-click on the particular app you want to uninstall. Select the Uninstall option.

Follow the on-screen prompts and make sure to restart your system after the uninstallation process is over.
