How To Recover Deleted Texts On iPhone? – Complete Guide

Accidentally deleting important messages is something we all are afraid of. Many of us have at some point accidentally deleted important messages and then had to face the consequences for it as we didn’t know how to recover them at that time. But if you are in the same problem, you don’t have to be completely helpless as there are ways to recover deleted texts.

If you are facing this on your iPhone, then here I have discussed how to recover deleted texts on your iPhone.

How To Recover Deleted Texts On iPhone?

There are 4 ways you can recover your deleted texts on your iPhone. None of these methods are guaranteed to bring back your messages. Still, if they are important enough, you should try these methods first before losing hope.

Method 1: Recover Deleted Text Messages On iPhone Using iCloud

The easiest to restore the deleted text messages on iPhone is using iCloud if a backup was created before the incident. Creating iCloud backup periodically helps in such times. If you had created a backup, here is how you can restore it:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone and select the Apple ID card. Tap on the iCloud option next.

  • Look for the Manage Storage option and select it.
  • Select Backups and you will see a list of backups for your iPhone. Tap on them to check when they were backed up. Look for the last backed one and remember it.

After you have found the last made backup, you will need to reset your iPhone to restore the backup up data on your iCloud. This may definitely sound annoying, but it’s the only way you can do it. Here is how you will have to do it:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone again. Tap on the General option.

  • Look for the Reset option and tap on it.
  • Select the Erase all Content and Settings option next.
  • Follow the prompts coming up on the screen and select the Erase iPhone option. Wait for your iPhone to reset. Once the reset finishes, you will find the iPhone’s initial setup screen.

  • See the instructions on the screen and follow as needed. Once you get to the App and Data screen, select Restore from iCloud Backup option.
  • Sign in to your iCloud account and select the backup you checked earlier. Wait for the restoration to finish.

After you are done restoring the backup data from iPhone, check if the deleted messages are recovered or not.

Method 2: Recover Deleted Text Messages On iPhone Using iTunes

Other than iCloud, if you backed up your phone to your computer before deleting the texts, then it can be restored using iTunes. Here is how you can recover the deleted text messages on iPhone using iTunes:

  • Attach your iPhone to the PC or Mac. Wait for iTunes to open automatically. If it doesn’t open, then do so manually.
  • Select the Phone icon present on the top of the screen.
  • Click on the Summary option from the menu.
  • Select the Restore Backup option. Wait for the backup to finish and you will find the old data back on your iPhone and hopefully with the deleted texts you wanted to recover.

Method 3: Retrieve Deleted Text Messages On iPhone By Contacting Your Carrier

This might be difficult for many of you but is still a viable option for recovering your deleted text messages. It is possible that your cell provider is keeping a copy of the sent messages for a temporary amount of time. These messages are obviously not opened or read by them due to privacy infringement laws.

Also, I am talking about your phone messages, not iMessages as iMessages are encrypted and the provider cannot keep a record of them. So, how are you going to recover the phone messages?

You will have to contact your carrier and it will not be easy. Once you connect, you need to specifically address how important those messages are to you. If you are lucky and have their attention, it will likely be a gruesome process for you to prove your identity. Also, remember that your messages are only recorded for a minimum amount of time.

Method 4: Retrieve Deleted Text Messages On iPhone Using 3rd Party Apps

If none of the above methods work out, then on your iPhone retrieve deleted texts is still possible using 3rd party apps. Obviously, this is the least safe among all the mentioned methods as there is no guarantee your messages could be retrieved by them and most such apps are not free.

Normally I won’t recommend ever going down this route but if you are desperate enough to try anything, then it’s my duty to inform you of all possible solutions. There are many such apps on the Apple App Store. If you have decided to try one, make sure to check the reviews to learn the experiences of other users first.
