Why Is Sims 3 Crashing? – Complete Solution Guide

The freedom and improvisation of Sim 3 enables you to explore the virtual world of Sims. But it’s frustrating when Sims 3 is crashing in the middle of the game or while launching!

There is no need to panic as today I am going to delve into some easy solutions to fix this problem.

How To Fix Sims 3 Crashing Issue?

Several reasons may cause Sims 3 to crash. First, you need to check if your system meets the required hardware specifications to run the game.

If you lack the minimum requirements or barely meet it, your game will likely crash repeatedly. Sometimes, wrong tweaks in your game settings may also lead to Sims 3 crashing.

Now, perform the following steps mentioned below to fix the problem.

Fix 1: Get The Latest Available Game Patch

Check for the game updates regularly to fix bugs and get a seamless gaming experience.

Game updates are released frequently by the developers so just install the latest patch to keep your game updated.

Always remember to give your system a fresh restart soon after installing the latest game patch.

Fix 2: Repair The Game

If you have installed Sims 3 via Origin and the game is crashing, you can use the built-in troubleshooter to fix the problem.

Now follow the steps mentioned below to do it:

Launch your Origin Client and then click on My Game Library.

Next right click on The Sims 3 to expand the options. From the displayed panel choose the Repair Game option and follow the on-screen prompts.

After the process gets finished, give a fresh restart to your modem/router as well as your PC. Now launch The Sims 3 and check if you are having further issues.

Fix 3: Try Windowed Mode For Sims 3

If you are still having problem with Sims 3, then you can try to play the game in windowed mode. If you can open the game settings, perform the following steps:

Launch Sims 3 and then from the bottom left side, click on the Option menu. Next go to the Graphics tab and from the Display Type, choose Windowed Mode.

Open your Sims game folder. Then find the Options.ini file and right-click on it. Select the Open with Notepad option. Now check for the Fullscreen value and change the value to 0.

Example: Fullscreen=0

Follow the on-screen prompts and hit the OK button. Then save you changes and enjoy your game.

Make sure while you are in the windowed mode, you use a lower resolution for best performance.

Fix 4: Delete Missingdeps.idx File

If the above mentioned steps fails to stop Sims 3 from crashing, try deleting the missingdeps.idx file. Many users have performed this step to fix this problem.

Just go to the Documents and then follow the path mentioned below:

Then delete the missingdeps.idx File as shown in the picture below.

Check if you can play your game without having any further issues.

Fix 5: Run Sims 3 Executable file

If Sims 3 launcher stopped working for you, try directly running the Sims 3 .exe file with administrative privileges.

Follow the steps mentioned below to do it:

Right-click on the Sims3 launcher shortcut on your desktop and select the Open File Location option. In the Bins folder, click on the TS3.exe file and run it as administrator.

Now enjoy playing Sims 3 without having any further issues.

Fix 6: Perform Clean Boot

If the above-mentioned methods could not stop Sims 3 crashing, then perform a clean boot.

This will turn off any unnecessary services or programs. Sometimes other services and start up programs running in the background can interfere with your game.

Now follow the steps mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

Launch the Windows Run dialog box by pressing Win + R hotkeys together. In the command box, enter Msconfig and then hit the OK button.

Now choose the General tab and then uncheck the Load system services under the Selective Start-Up section.

Next, go to the Services section and check the Hide all Microsoft Services box. Click on Disable all and select Apply.

Now right click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager.

Go to the Start Up tab and disable the programs having high start up impact.

After completing the above steps, give your computer a fresh restart. Hope this will solve the problem.

Fix 7: Update Graphics Drivers

If Sims 3 is still crashing, then check if your graphics drivers are outdated. Make sure to keep your graphics driver always up to date.

For updating your outdated graphics driver, follow the steps mentioned below:

Launch the Run dialog box by pressing Win + R hotkeys. Next, enter devmgmt.msc in the command box and then hit the Enter button.

Now expand Display Adapters and right-click on your graphics driver. Click on Update Driver option as shown in the picture below.

From the window that pops up, click on the Search automatically for drivers option and Windows will commence the search for the latest drivers.

After finishing the installation process, restart your system.

Quick Fix 8: Update DirectX To The Latest Version

If your game is still crashing, then update DirectX.

Launch the Run dialog box again by pressing Win + R. Next enter dxdiag in the command box and then hit the Enter button. This will open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

Click on the Display tab and check if you are using an outdated version.
