Why Sound Card Is Not Detected In Windows 10? [Solved]

1) Make Sure The Audio Services Are Enabled

If you can’t find the audio device in Windows 10, check that you have enabled Windows audio services.

To check that, follow the steps given below:

  • Go to the Start Menu and enter RUN in the search box. Select the top option to open Run Utility.

You can also launch the run by pressing Win + R hotkeys on your keyboard.

  • Enter services.msc in the run command box and press the Enter key.


  • Locate Windows Audio and double click on it. Go to the Startup type and select the Automatic option from the drop-down menu.
  • Now click on the Start option and then click on the Apply Finally, click on OK to save the changes made.


  • Next find Windows Endpoint Audio Builder and double click on it to expand its Properties.
  • Click on the Startup type drop-down menu and select the Automatic option.
  • Next click on Start as shown in the picture below.
  • Save your changes by clicking on Apply and then on the OK button.

2) Disable And Enable Your Sound Adapter

When your PC is not detecting the audio device, re-enable the sound adapter. To do so, follow the steps given below:

  • Right-click on the Start Menu and click on Device Manager.
  • Locate Sound, video, and game controller and double click on it.
  • Right-click on your sound adapter and click on Disable device option as shown in the picture below.


  • Wait for some time and then again right-click on your sound adapter.
  • This time choose Enable device After re-enabling your audio adapter check if your PC can detect the audio device, else move on to the next solution.

3) Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  • Enter Control Panel in the Windows search box. Select the top option.
  • Next click on the Recovery option as shown in the picture below.


  • Click on Open System Restore and click on the Next button. Select a preferred restore point.


  • To save the changes click on the Next button and then on Finish.

7) Set Your Playback Device As The Default One

If you are using multiple playback devices, then set a specific device as your default one. This will help your PC detect the sound card easily.

Now  follow the steps to do so:

  • Enter Control Panel in the Windows Search Box. Click on the first option.
  • Now select Sound and click on your Speakers. Set those as the default playback device.


8) Reset Your Windows

If the above steps could not solve the problem and you can’t find the audio device in Windows 10, reset your Windows.

But remember to back up all your important documents before you carry on with the steps. Now follow the steps as mentioned:

  • Press Win + I to open Windows Settings.
  • Click on Update & Security and select Recovery.


  • From the right side pane, click on Get Started option under Reset this PC option.


  • Choose Remove Everything and click on Only the drive where Windows is installed.
