Why Steam Is Not Recognizing Installed Games?

Steam helps you to manage all the games in a single place.

But sometimes users find that Steam is not recognizing the installed games.

You may encounter this problem after clean installing Windows or if there is something wrong with the game’s installation folder.

Now let us discuss in detail what to do when Steam is not recognizing your installed games.

What To Do If Steam Is Not Recognizing Installed Games?

There are various factors responsible because of which Steam may not recognize the installed game.

Now let us discuss how to get steam to recognize game files.

Also check: What to do when a Steam game won’t launch.

1) Check If The Game Folder Is In The Proper Location

When Steam doesn’t recognize installed games, then games appear as uninstalled.

If the affected game folder is still in the proper location, then an attempt to launch the game will initiate the download.

During this downloading process, Steam will recognize the game’s installation files.

To make sure that the game installation folders are in the proper location, you may check the folder destination or navigate to the default Steam installation location as follows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

2) Reinstall The Games

When Steam cannot recognize an installed game, then you will see an option to install the game again. There is no need to further download it.

If the game data is present in the Steam apps folder, then you can install the game again.

This will force Steam to recognize the game.

Now follow the steps to do so:

  • Open Steam and click Games. Go to your Games library.
