Fix: This Site Can’t Be Reached Chrome Error

You can encounter ‘This site can’t be reached’ error with various error codes on Google Chrome.

Many reasons can cause the problem and today I am going to explore the possible fixes to solve it. Keep reading. 

How Can We Solve ‘This Site Can’t Be Reached’ Error In Chrome?

1) Restart Your Modem or Router

When you get the message – this site can’t be reached on chrome, restart your router or modem.

If your Wi-Fi connection is not be working properly, then this can fix the problem.

Check the steps to restart your router or modem:

  • Click on the internet icon from the extreme bottom right corner of the taskbar. Check if you are having a stable network.
  • Turn your router or modem off and keep it disconnected for 10-15 minutes. Now plug it back in and restart your system.

2) Reset Network Configuration

Resetting Network configuration will flush DNS and clear the DNS record from the cache. This process will fix if there is any corrupted record.

Now follow the steps to reset network configuration:

  • Go to the Search Menu and enter CMD. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator option.
  • In the elevated Command Prompt window, enter the following commands one after the other. Press the Enter button after each command.

3) Change DNS

If after flushing DNS you find Chrome this site can’t be reached, change DNS address.

Check the steps to do so:

  • Press Win + I to open Settings and click on Network & Internet option.

  • Select Advanced Network Settings and then choose Change Adapter Options.

  • Right-click on your Network Connection and expand its Properties.

  • Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 [TCP/IPv4] and select Properties.

  • Set the Preferred DNS Server address to 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS Server address to 8.8.4.4.
  • Save the changes by clicking on OK.

Now check if this has solved the problem, else go to the next solution.

4) Enable Automatic Configuration In The LAN Settings

If you find that the Gmail site can’t be reached, open internet properties and check the automatic configuration in the LAN settings. This can solve the problem, so try it!

  • Open Run utility by pressing Win + R. Enter inetcpl.cpl and press the Enter button.

  • From the Internet Properties window, click on the Connections option. Select LAN Settings as shown below.

5) Clear Chrome Cache

To fix ‘This site can’t be reached’ on Chrome, now clear the browser cache and cookies.

Follow the steps to clear Chrome cache:

  • Open Chrome and click on the three dots at the extreme top side.
  • Select Settings and scroll down to find the Advanced option. Click on the option.
  • Select Clear Browsing data as I have shown in the picture below.

  • Check the boxes attached to Browsing History, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files. Click on the Clear Data option.

Now, this will clear cache and cookies from Chrome.

6) Disable Browser Extensions

If after clearing the browser cache you still find the problem, then disable the browser extensions if any.

We often use browser extensions to enhance the functionality of web browsers.

These extensions can sometimes interfere and create problems.

Follow the steps to disable the Chrome browser extension:

  • Click on the three dots at the top right corner of the Chrome browser. Select the More Tools option. Next to click on Extensions.

  • Select the extensions you want to disable and turn off the toggle button.

Now check if this has solved your problem. Enable each extension.  Check which browser extension is causing the issue. Keep that browser extension disabled.

Now move on to the next solution if this could not resolve your problem.

7) Reinstall Google Chrome

If nothing helps you to solve the problem, reinstall Chrome.

Hopefully, a clean reinstallation should fix the issue. Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome:

  • Go to the Start Menu and enter Control Panel. Now click on the Programs and Features option.
  • Locate Chrome under Uninstall or Change A Program. Right-click on Chrome and select Uninstall.

  • Now download the latest version of Chrome by clicking on this link. Finish the process.

Now log in fresh using your credentials and check if this has fixed the issue.
