Google drive is popular for uploading the videos and play easily as it supports various formats.

But sometimes due to some minor problems you may encounter Google Drive whoops there was a problem playing this video’ or ‘whoops there was a problem playing this video error messages.

The problem is not rare and can be solved following the methods I am going to discuss in the article below.

1) Restart Your Device

While Google Drive not playing videos, restart your device once. Often this simple step can solve the problem.

When you restart your machine, it clears any faulty settings that can prevent your video from playing.

This way the video that you are trying to play will get freshly loaded from a clean slate.

So, restart your computer and see if this solves the problem.

2) Check The Video Format

You must consider that all video formats are not meant for all the devices.

Make sure to verify that your video is one of the supported formats.

Check that it is amongst .MPEG4, .AVI, .3GPP, .MPEG, .MPEGPS, .FLV, .WEBM, .MOV, .OGG and .WMV formats as these are all the supportive types.

If you find your video is not amongst these formats, convert the incompatible video file to one of the mentioned formats. Any video exceeding the playback resolution of 1920 x 1080 will not play as they are not allowed by Google Drive.

Additionally, Google Drive allows a maximum playback resolution of 1920 x 1080. So, check that your video does not exceed this.

3) Clear Browser Cache And Cookies

If you still find ‘Whoops there was a problem playing this video’ error, then the corrupted cache can also be responsible to initiate the problem.

So, clear your browser cache and see if this can solve the problem.

Check the steps to delete cache from Google Chrome:

  • Open Google Chrome and from the top right corner, click on the three dots Menu.
  • Select More Tools option and then Clear Browsing Data option.

  • Check all the boxes you find on the next page and click on the Clear Data.

  • Wait till the process gets completed and then try to play your video. If you still cannot play the video move on to the next step.

4) Remove Browser Extension

If after clearing the browser cache you get whoops there was a problem playing this video Google Drive error message, remove the unnecessary browser extensions.

Follow the process given below to remove the browser extensions:

  • Open Chrome Menu and select More Tools.
  • Click on Extensions and this will display the web extensions that you have added.

  • Turn off the toggle for the extensions you want to disable. Now this should solve the issue.

5) Reset Browser Settings To Their Original Defaults

If after removing the browser extensions, you still get whoops ‘There was a problem playing this video’ error, reset your browser settings.

Here I am showing the process using Chrome browser. Follow the steps:

  • Open Google Chrome and click on the Menu option.
  • Select Settings and go to the Advanced tab.

  • Click on Reset and Clean Up option and next click on Restore settings.

Now wait for a while till the process gets completed and this should fix the error.

6) Open The Browser In The Incognito Mode

If the above process did not solve your problem, then open the browser in the incognito mode and try playing your video.

For many users this step solved the problem, so, give this a try.

  • Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots menu.
  • Select New Incognito Window option and this will open a new window. Now try playing your video and check if you face the same problem.

7) Run A Virus Scan

Sometimes your system may get affected with virus or malware and this can stop the video from playing.

So, run a virus scan using your antivirus software to get rid of the problem.

This will prevent the automatic changes in your browser settings and resolve the issue.
